Marketing in the Age of Digital
2 min readJul 6, 2023

Living in an era of rapid development, I always look forward to witnessing changes. However, after a thrill of excitement passes by, anxiety to the unknown masks like a lingering gaze.

What I think?

Marketing came to be viewed as a means of selling with interruptive, repetitive, and annoying ads, that attempted to bludgeon customers into submission, according to a Forbes article. It was recognized as an expense rather than an investment. Fortunately, marketing rejuvenates and works for empowering enterprises through the impact of digital technology. Leveraging the rapid development of digital technology, marketing has evolved and exercised more effective functionalities both tangibly and intangibly.

Live-streaming commerce, for instance, is one of the most successful, new emerging marketing tactics in China. According to a McKinsey report, the first 30 minutes of Alibaba’s 2020 Singles’ Day presales campaign on Taobao Live generated an impressive $7.5 billion in total transaction value. Livestream commerce combines instant purchasing of a featured product and audience participation through a chat function or reaction buttons, and the popularity of livestream commerce grows among Millennials and Gen Z.

Nevertheless, it is upset to witness that digital technology has been developed so quickly. No one knows how far the artificial intelligence will go, and whether it will harm human beings or not. No one knows how severely the rapid growth of e-commerce and livestream commerce will impact the conventional physical stores. The unknown masks like a lingering gaze surrounding the sun of rapid growth.

What I expect?

The only opportunity of working on UX design from my professional experience is when I engaged in a dashboard design case for a leading beverage company. Though the case was more data analytics prone, lots of efforts still spent on UX design of the dashboard including the color scheme, page layouts for both laptops and mobile devices, and subtle design on filters and section dividers, in order to optimize the user experience and cater our client’s aesthetics.

Therefore, I really expect to further dive in diverse techniques of UX design adapting to different digital platforms. Additionally, I look forward to consolidating the knowledge and application including content marketing, website SEO & SEM, digital attribution and analytics. Moreover, I am enthusiastic to learn more about new emerging trends such as AI, AR, VR and messenger bots. Ultimately, I would like to understand more thoroughly on how to leverage marketing techniques to address in business problems such as customer acquisition, lead generation, increasing customer loyalty, and building brand images.
