What 5 Most Important Things You Should Know About Digital Marketing?

As a digital marketer, I wish my clients would understand 5 major things about digital marketing before they let me create their digital marketing strategies.

  1. UI & UX (website)

UI & UX refers to User Interface and User Experience. These are two key concepts we need to consider for our clients when we help them to design their websites. Kare Anderson once said that “understanding science behind the human thought is crucial to designing an idyllic experience on the web”. This means we have to think about want users want and not want when they go on a website. For example, users do not want to see too many choices on a website or they might feel confused. Therefore, we have to provide limited choices on a website. We also have to test the site speed very frequently in order to maintain good user experience. Most importantly, the design needs to make customers feel instant gratification so that they would remember the feeling which delivered by the company.

2. UI&UX (mobile)

When we help a company design a mobile app, it is very important to consider customers’ habits and demands while using mobile apps, which is very different from browsing websites. Steve Jobs once said that “design is not what it looks like and what it feels like, design is how it works”. First of all, customers have to be able to scan quickly. Similar to website, the words have to be easy to read. The design and the app content have to be relevant to the brand message.

Overall, we want the customers to feel both the website and the mobile app are a pleasure to use.

3. Content

When we talk about content, we are talking about content of every single aspect of a company online including advertisements, campaigns, product info, etc. All content online has to be relevant to what the brand stands for and what the brand message conveys. Content is what drives value for a company and stimulates customers to engage with the company online. Today, everyone realizes the importance of content no matter what they do especially under this current COVID-19 situation. People and companies have no choice but rely on digital content to promote their businesses, and also to engage with each other.

4. Context

If content is the king of digital marketing, then context is the queen. We have to know where to place the content. For example, for placing mobile ads, there are about 4 different types of placements including reward placement, interstitial placement, in-feed ads, and banner placement. 5. SEO

We have to make sure the company’s info is ranked on the first two pages of search engines. The goal is SEO is about winning the traffic and conversions through search engines. In order to do that, we have to chase the algorism and metrics-informed content creation. For example, we have to consider the inbound links from other websites to the company’s site. Of course, there are more things we need to consider other than these 5 major components. However, these are the basic elements that every digital marketers with their clients would know.
