What is Love?

No, I’m not talking about the classic song from Haddaway that charted across the EU and US, nor the popular song from a Korean girl group called TWICE. I’m talking about a human feeling that gives strong affection to others, the love that makes people feel bonded, happy, and warm.

How much do you know about Love?

Love exists everywhere, every place, with everyone, throughout history and cultures. In one study, romantic love has been found to exist in 147 of 166 cultures. Although love is a relational word, it doesn’t always associate with human-to-human relationships. Yes, you can love your partners, your families, your friends; but you can also love things, even when it doesn’t love you back. For me, I love the pink sunset in Santa Monica, love the avocado smoothie I made over the weekend, the newest M&M designs, or just simply singing loudly in the shower while re-watching How I Met Your Mother, and the list goes on.

Did I forget to mention something?

Ah, how about non-human, non-things love?

Yes, I’m talking about pets, or companion animals. From cats, dogs, to parrots or goldfish, from horses, llamas, to lizards, turtles, or hedgehogs; no matter how crazy it might sound, they are all pets, our companion little friends, and should all receive as much care and love as we do. Ironically, every year, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter animal shelters, the majority are dogs and cats. Of those, only 3.2 million are adopted. This is a sad reality. Especially with the slow down of the pandemic and as the world inches back to normal, more and more people who got their pets during the pandemic are abandoning them. Animal shelters are indeed“homes” for “homeless” animals, but they can never replace a real home with love and owners. Animal shelters might face the problem of overcrowding, which lead to dirty living conditions, lack of veterinary care, adequate food, water, healthcare programs, and any other resources. That’s why all animal shelters need our help, either adopting a pet, volunteering, or even donating to help cover the costs of supplies, housing upgrades, etc.

How to spread the Love?

Chewy, one of the biggest pet-supplies online retailers, has always committed to helping shelters and rescue animals. Throughout the years, through partnering with Adopt-a-Pet, sponsoring Pet Adoption Fair, or donating pet supplies for distribution, Chewy has been working to help increase pet adoptions and provide resources and supplies for pets in animal shelters.

This year, to celebrate Valentine's Day, which is normally celebrated with your significant others, Chewy decided to take another step to help more adoptable pets, who are looking for someone to love. In partnering with Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League, Chewy did a TikTok Livestream to spread love in their “Some Buddy To Love” campaign.

Chewy’s “Some Buddy to Love” Event

What is captivating and inspiring about the campaign is that the main characters for the event are puppies and kitten through interesting show-and-tells activities. Nevertheless, Chewy really knows how to update the dating trends when they even tried to create a dating profile for all the pets, making more and more people “fall in love” with these adorable friends. Who would be able to resist those adorable eyes from that “big-time meower”?

Pets’ dating profiles

With over 28 thousand like, the event was indeed a big success, not only in terms of spreading love to people for valentine, but also helping the “homeless” animals. Besides encouraging viewers to adopt the “cuties,” for every view the live received, Chewy will also donate 1 pound of pet food and supplies to the Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League, up to 10,000 pounds. By streaming the event on TikTok, Chewy sure does know how to leverage existing resources and tap into the new trends of Gen Z nowadays. This helps broadcast their effort to the new generation and expand their audience beyond Florida, where the animal shelter is located. This event did a great job in telling Chewy’s story through interactive content that engage the viewers. It also keeps the company staying true to its value, commitment, and encourages society to change for a better cause.

So,

Are you persuaded by Chewy’s message?

Are you ready to adopt a pet?

Are you ready to spread the love and make the world become a better place today?
