Henri Bendel: How they Made me Prioritize their Products over Price

Prices become less relevant when it comes to our favorite brand products. When we are emotionally connected to any brand, the price matters less to us, we are willing to pay more just to have their products. Just having products gives us a sense of satisfaction and a sense of belonging. We do not buy products or services, we buy emotions. There is a strong emotion, emotions in our mind, emotions in our body connected to that brand, which persuade us to prioritize their products over prices. Having their products become more important regardless of their high prices.

Henri Bendel : A beacon of Utmost luxury, Fifth Avenue, A True New Yorker, Manhattan’s Elite, A high sense of Fashion, Bendel’s Girls.

I spent so much money to buy Henri Bendel’s products while I had plenty of options to spend less on those same products from different brands. However, I preferred Henri Bendel over other brands’ products and their high price had become less relevant to me.

Henri Bendel Inc. made its presence in the fashion industry in 1985, products included Henri Bendel brands of handbags, luxury fashion accessories, jewelry, fragrances, and gifts. Henri Bendel, the owner of Henri Bendel brand, Louisiana-born businessman moved to New York City and became famous for dressing Manhattan’s elite out of his Greenwich Village millinery in the late 1800s, he’s also credited with bringing Chanel to the United States. As his name moved upwards in social status, so did his eponymous store, which was established uptown at 57th Street and Fifth Avenue. He was able to use his fashion designing skills to develop an incredibly successful millinery shop on Ninth Street in Greenwich Village, that catered to the wealthy people of the city. He quickly became a leading tastemaker and couturier to the city’s elite and his boutique became a beacon of utmost luxury.

I am a classic style enthusiast, I was amused by their quality luxury products, elegant and sophisticated design. The legendary brown and white stripes carried the finest of Paris couture. Not to mention, their persistent introduction of tasteful, classy yet fun new design and style. People who know Henri Bendel and use their products, they are perceived as holding a high sense of fashion.

A Manhattan Socialite Staple Brand.

I connected to that brand emotionally. New York City has become my second home after I left my city (Dhaka) in 2012. Henri Bendel is identified as a brand of New Yorker, New York Style. “Henri Bendel is truly a girl’s playground, consistently interpreting and reinventing itself as a destination rooted in the never-ending energy and creativity that is abundant in New York City”.

It gave me the sense of belonging : I belong to this city.
