Marketing is no longer what it used to be. There are so many ways for a brand to become successful nowadays, not just through print and TV ads like it used to be. Just as there is so much clutter for customers to find their favorite brands, so too, there is also a great deal of clutter for brands with ways to become successful with marketing in this constantly active world.

I am going to discuss the 5 factors that I find most important for a brand’s marketing to be successful.

First, in order to be a big-time player in this world of constant activity, you need to know the crowd you are trying to reach. It is impossible to please everyone, so don’t try to. I would advise that the brand should start by determining its smallest viable market. That is the audience you can serve and that can sustain your business as it grows. It’s about targeting the people who will particularly benefit from what you are offering. Once these people are reached and pleased with what the brand is offering, word-of-mouth will help them grow. This can establish trust between the company and its customers as they start by trusting their friends then the brand. Familiarity will often lead to understanding.

Second, keep up with your customers and do your research. The people trying to be reached can be on the move. I would suggest that the brand does their research and find out where their customers hang out, whether that be specific social media platforms, more towards print ads, blogs, etc. It is easy for brands to waste money on advertising, so to be most successful find your audience and where they are. Tailoring your marketing efforts to reach various demographics of customers on a familiar level will make the relationships seem more personal. The research will help the brand market the correct material, in the right places, and to the right people.

Third, create a story. People love feeling a connection. Give them that chance to connect emotionally to your brand and your values. Give them the chance to engage, whether that be through social media or by simply buying your product or service. This will help the brand stand out by showing a difference in the brand and product.

Fourth, know your competition and what they’re doing. There is an incredible amount of competition out there today and in order to stand out from the clutter, you need to be in the know in order be on top.

Fifth, stay integrated and consistent. A brand should make sure that it is staying consistent when reaching its consumers. The brand's message should be the same no matter which platform it is using so that no matter the platform your consumer is on, they will see you. The release of consistent information across bases will keep consumers engaged. For example, this video gives some great pointers…
