Social Media Fail: Kim Kardashian West Shape Wear

On June 25th 2019, Kim Kardashian West released her new Shape Wear line, to accompany her beauty business, KKW beauty.

Seems innocent right…Nothing meme-able here…right?

Only one could hope. As a riff, off her name and out of so called ‘respect’ for Japanese culture…she name, her line of underwearKimono.

And yes, she made no efforts to even spell it differently…

I know…I know. There, there, it’s okay, let it all out, so did millions of others in this social media disaster. Take a look at these brutal tweets to make you feel better.

Feel a little better now?

After backlash Kim explained to People Magazine, that she named the line ‘Kimono’ because she wanted her fans to know that she put the same effort into the creation process, as one would, when designing a Kimono….

She continued, stating that others should feel free to still call traditional kimonos, kimonos…

Take a looksie at that article, here…if you are calm enough too…

Kim, like soo, soo so many other companies, made the unforgivable mistake of cultural ignorance. I must say though, comparing a line of gut suckers and fat smoothers, to an ancient traditional garment, worn at weddings, funerals, and religious occasions, is quite the achievement!

That July, Kim sort of released an apology, though the actual word ‘sorry’ wasn’t included…

A months later in August, Kim decided to change the name of her brand from Kimono to Skims.

umm…ummm…have a good night, I guess?
