Websites can be described as your “online presence” on the Internet, similar to Facebook Pages and other social media platforms. The difference is you can fully customize your site to fit your personality (if you are a blogger or an influencer), your own business or even create your best online portfolio. Having a website greatly allows you to present yourself properly to people you just got in contact with.

With the Covid-19 pandemic and country lockdowns going around the world, having a website will be something necessary for your business to survive. Some of you may not have the necessary technical skills to build a website quickly, hence here I am to show you a simple tool called InstaFunnels that can let you get your website up quickly with simple clicks, drag and drop!

You can watch the FULL tutorial video here to see how it’s done.

What do you need on a website?

Based on my experience and perspective, a website should include as many details as possible since it represents the “encyclopedia” of your online presence or your business. People check your website to want to know more about what you do or what your business does.

Here’s a FREE checklist for you to confirm if you have at least these few pages on your website.

1. Home Page

Great Example from https://www.freshbooks.com/

This page should be your main page that summarizes your online presence. Visitors should be able to understand who you are and what you doing on this page.

Avoid cluttering your home page with too many texts and focus on using images and videos to preserve your visitor’s attention. No harm in showing sneak peeks to them what you have done so far and you show to others that you are genuine.

2. About Us Page

Great Example from https://www.nowness.com/about

This page should explain where you come from and why you are starting this, basically the reason your website exists. For businesses, this is great for you to place your mission, vision and any core values you practised in your company. The same can be applied to freelancers or job seekers.

3. Products/Services Page (For businesses only)

Great Example from https://www.cloudera.com/products.html

This page will represent what you offer to contribute to the community and the marketplace. Pricing plans and offer packages (if any) can be included here as well, or an enquiry form if your prices are customized. This is also the best place to place your testimonials and any justifications on why visitors should make a deal with you.

4. Portfolio (For freelancers or job-seekers)

Great Example from https://alitwotimes.com/

Post your most relevant track records to your offered services on this page. This will play a major role in your visitor’s decision to work with you. Remember to only post your work that you are confident to deliver all the time, or you will have a hard time with your clients.

5. Contact Us Page

Great Example from https://marvelapp.com/contact-us

The second most important element on your website. Without this set up properly, you lose every potential visitor who attempts to contact you. Make sure you are easy to reach.

6. A good navigation bar for visitors to move around

A sample of my own website on how I build my simple navigation bar. You can take a look here.

In most cases, you hardly have just one page on your website to contain all the information about you or your business. Therefore, you would need something for visitors to easily navigate around your website. Your navigation bar can either be on top of the browser or the left side of the browser.

Note: If you are just a student who would want a cool way to use a website to showcase your presentation, then the above pages won’t be necessary and you are free to customize the pages you want to include onto your website.

Website Building Tips and Tricks

Just a disclaimer, these tips and tricks are not new and I share them based on my personal experience thus far. If you know some that are not listed here, feel free to comment on the blog below.

1. Always plan your content

When creating a webpage on your website, make sure you plan how you want to arrange your content upfront. Once you had a big picture of how things should look like, use a website builder like InstaFunnels to arrange them quickly and publish them online.

2. Add “Back to top” links to let visitors easily scroll through your site

Great Example from http://rapidxhtml.com/

If your website has a lot of information displayed on the screen, it would be wise to include links that allow visitors to quickly scroll up to the navigation bar. Websites that are inconvenient for visitors to interact with will make them leave very quickly. Therefore, minimize the reasons for your visitor to leave your website.

3. Keep your formatting, font styles and colours simple

For starters, you may tend to use fancy fonts and colours to make your website looked attractive. However, it is best to keep the formatting as simple as possible. This is because not everyone has the newest mobile devices or computers that support those fancy decorations you placed on your website. You do not wish to let your visitors see weird fonts and colours on your site just because their devices do not have the right font and colour packages installed.
