Venture capital’s top daily reads. | Joe Hovde

By Caitlin Huston

Every morning, the top venture capital investors in the world wake up, drink a fresh cup of coffee, or Soylent, and mine these blogs and newsletters for insight and the latest deal news.

The top online reads among the investors were AVC, a blog by venture capitalist Fred Wilson, whose firm has invested in companies such as Twitter Inc. and Tumblr and Term Sheet, a daily deals newsletter, formerly run by journalist Dan Primack, according to blogger Joe Hovde.

Hovde aggregated the responses from 200 guest interviews on The Twenty Minute VC podcast, hosted by Harry Stebbings.

Blogs and newsletters play a big part in the venture capital and startup world, where investments can be based as much on intuition as on metrics. Venture capitalists are often the proprietors of these blogs and authors of books, another popular resource for entrepreneurs.

Other top reads for VCs included Mattermark Daily, Ben Evans’ Newsletter by Benedict Evans, a venture capitalist at a16z and Feld Thoughts by Brad Feld, founder of accelerator TechStars and venture firm Foundry Group.

The Information is the only traditional news source that cracks the list’s top 10.
