Marlin Biweekly 1 Dev & Community Updates — January 2022
Here are the latest developments for the first half of January!
As always, our discord server is the place to bug us in case you have any queries or want to discuss all things Marlin and Layer 0. For community-related discussions, our Telegram channel is the place to be!
Engineering Updates
- Deployed token contracts on Fantom to test Anyswap integration. Other chains will be added towards the end of the month once testing finishes.
- Made the staker explicit in _delegate and _undelegate. Fixes an edge case.
- Added staking rewards distribution support for Arbitrum.
- OpenWeaver now builds on ARM instances. Operators who were asking us about running relays on Graviton instances can try it out now. Support in marlinctl will come soon.
- Added a Grapher to query operator <> client key mapping from the subgraph
- The discovery mechanisms now work based on the operator address directly instead of the client key using the above mapping. Should handle edge cases like client key switches a lot better now.
Community Updates
- A case study of MEV on Low-Fee Chains
Supragya presented a case study of MEV on Low-Fee Chains at the Flashbots’ MEV in 2021: A Year In Review event on 13th January 2022.
The presentation covered MEV extraction on Polygon in 2021, including a focus on adversarial & non-adversarial spamming activity & how such activities exist on other low-fee chains.
The full presentation by Supragya is available here and starts at 38:30.

- Completed Staking migration from the Ethereum network to Arbitrum
The relay network switched to using the staking contracts on Arbitrum.
To continue earning rewards:
- Delegators need to migrate their stashes.
- Operators need to register on the Arbitrum staking portal.

- Staking Stats
Staking is live on the Arbitrum and users/operators are in the process of migrating from the Ethereum network.
Those looking to stake or run clusters will need to do so on the Arbitrum staking portal in order to earn rewards. Existing users and cluster operators still on the Ethereum network a required to migrate to Arbitrum to continue earning staking rewards.
Over 868 million POND has been staked in the form of MPond (734 MPond equivalent to 734 million POND) and POND (134 million POND) tokens. The Ethereum staking contract can be found here and the Arbitrum staking contract can be found here.
Looking to stake? There are currently over 40 cluster operators to choose from.
Our dummies guide should get you through the staking process. Reach out to us on Discord if you’re facing any issues, need to clarify doubts, or require assistance.
