They were lonely, but it wasn’t their fault.
Actually, it was kind of unfair. Thea and Avi didn’t want to have kids. They’d never wanted kids. Their twenties were a blur of parties, nights out, and vacations in the sun with their friends. Why would you want to give that up to spend your days cleaning up poop and vomit?
As their thirties approached, their friends were all getting married — Jon and Lisa, Sally and George, Cassie and Leo. That was fine. They’d all been together for at least a few years, so pledging their futures to one another was nice. Shinye and Tasha married in Corfu — that was a fantastic trip for everybody.
Avi asked Thea if she wanted to get married, and she shrugged. Sure.
