How can MarsDAO community members protect themselves in Telegram?
Our community actively uses Telegram to communicate, read news, participate in AMA sessions, and for other activities.
🔒 We’ve prepared a short guide to help secure your Telegram account.
Here’s what you need to do:
1. Set up 2FA
The basic login method is via a one-time code, but be sure to set up a password as the second security step.
If someone gains access to your SIM card and tries to log into your Telegram account by entering a one-time code, the system will not let them in without a password.
To do this:
► Go to settings.
► Next to the Privacy section.
Click on “Configure two-step authentication (2FA)”.
► Create a password.
This password will need to be entered to log in from the new device. Do not lose it, otherwise you will have to request an account reset.
2. Limit your public info
We recommend the following:
► Go to the privacy settings.
► “Phone number” → “Who can see my phone number” — “Nobody”.
► “Data and Storage” → “Automatic Media Download” → “Disable”.
► “Phone number” → “Who can see my phone number” — “My contacts”.
► “Calls” → “Who can call me” → “My contacts” (or “Nobody” if you prefer).
► “Calls” → “Peer-to-peer network” — “My contacts” (or “Nobody” if you prefer not to share your IP address with your chat partners).
3. Change the parameters for loading and storing data
In the mobile version, go to Privacy & Security.
► Data Settings.
► Delete any information you don’t need.
4. Check your active sessions
Telegram allows users to have the same Telegram account open on different devices at the same time.
You may forget that you are logged in on a particular phone/laptop, and this could play a cruel trick on you. Review all the devices on which you have logged into your account.
→ Settings.
→ Privacy & Security.
→ Active Sessions.
→ Close all active sessions for devices you do not use.
5. Disable P2P calls for everyone
When using P2P, the IP address of the call object will appear in the Telegram management log.
You can change this in the settings so that you won’t show your IP address:
► Settings.
► Personal.
► Security.
► Voice call.
► Change the peer-to-peer communication to “Never” or “None”.
Note that with this setting your IP address will be hidden, but the sound quality will be degraded.
