A quick look into the four sub-regions of Oceania.

Oceania is often described as being composed of a number of sub-regions.

Melanesian: consisting of Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, and Fiji.

Micronesian: consisting of Palau, Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Kiribati and the US territory of Guam as well as the Northern Mariana Island.

Polynesian: consisting of Pacific Island countries stretching from Tuvalu in the Northwest, New Zealand to the South, and the French Polynesia to the East.

Metropolitan: this classification of the sub-region is rather unconventional, because it lumps together countries, like the US, UK, France, Australia, and New Zealand, that still has territories and areas that have not yet been properly decolonized.
