ONE: Revolution promised an electric card and it sure delivered. Out of the six matchups, four ended in a KO. You can’t ask for a more exciting result than that. With the dust settled, let’s look at some of the highlights, where the field stands now, and some building storylines.

Anatoly Malykhin earns title bout

The heavyweight clash between Aliakbari and Malykhin was a quick and hard-hitting affair. After 2:57 in the first round, Malykhin caught the Iranian with a huge left hook to put Aliakbari on the mat for a big-time KO victory. After another first-round stoppage, ONE CEO Chatri Sityadong announced that Malykhin’s next bout will be against Arjan Bhullar for the heavyweight belt. We’ll see if the Russian has what it takes to dethrone the king, but if his last two bouts have shown anything, Malykhin sure has the tools to get it done.

Kim Jae Woong upsets Martin Nguyen

Like I had said before, this fight stole the show tonight, with fireworks from start to explosive finish. In the end, Martin Nguyen was caught with a massive right hand that sat him down. An emotional Kim Jae Woong got his time in the spotlight, letting the emotions pour out of him during the post-fight interview while calling for the belt. And as the saying goes, ask and you shall receive. Chatri announced that Kim’s next bout will be for the featherweight belt. He will face the winner of Than Le and Gary Tonon in what should be a fight for the ages. Can the Korean keep riding this wave all the way to the strap? We will just have to wait and see.

Ok Rae Yoon’s controversial win over Christian Lee

In the main event of the night, we saw an absolute war between Lee and Ok for the lightweight belt. Throughout the 25 minutes, Lee displayed excellent grappling, near submissions, and wobbling Ok three times (twice in the last two rounds). However, Ok stayed tall and flexed his seemingly endless tank by surviving the onslaught to take the fight the distance. In the shocking finish of the night, the judges sided with Ok Rae Yoon to crown him the new king of the lightweight division.

The call was immediately blasted by fans in the comments, as it seemed Lee had been controlling the entire fight and only showing signs of slowing down after the second half of the fourth round. It did not help that Lee had very visibly wobbled Ok in the final round in what looked to be the finish of the fight. If history has taught us anything about close matches like this, we should see a rematch announcement very soon in what the most pivotal match of Christian Lee’s young career could be this one.
