When I say the names Israel Adesanya, Valentina Schevchenko, and Anderson Silva, what do you think ties them together? Could it be in division domination? Could it be incredible title runs? While those all do apply, the art of Muay Thai is really the common thread between them. And not just these greats, but many other MMA fighters are all connected by the art of eight limbs.

Now, I could go on and on about why Muay Thai has taken over the world of mixed martial arts (and lucky for you, we have an article describing just that!), but I’ll stick to the basics for right now. The Thai art teaches the best in striking, with devastating kicks, cutting elbows, crushing knees, and punches just for good measure. And unlike kickboxing, Muay Thai teaches how to utilize the clinch for strikes and trips/takedowns. These skills are game-changers when implemented in MMA. But what if you don’t want that beautiful striking to be tainted by some pesky BJJ black belts or world champion wrestlers? You’re just in luck because boy do we have the promotion for you.

Rise of Lion Fight

Fans of Muay Thai have enjoyed the high-level bouts staged by ONE Championship, but that might not be enough to scratch that itch. So, to fill that hole in your heart, look no further than Las Vegas-based Lion Fight Promotions. Founder Scott Kent left the casino world to share his passion for Muay Thai with the world. Established in 2010, they have spent more than a decade showcasing the world’s best fighters in the ring. Some names that have graced the Lion Fight ring include Cris Cyborg, John Wayne Parr, Jo Nattawut, and Kevin Ross. They pride themselves on showcasing the best of the world in Muay Thai, with fighters from across the globe. The idea of European champions fighting Lumpinee Stadium champions should get any fight fan excited. And they are going to do exactly that next week!

Lion Fight 70, out of Los Angeles, marks the glorious return of Muay Thai to the City of Angels on October 8th. Featuring six main card bouts, four prelims, and three (yes three!) title fights. The main event for the evening pits Dechsakda Burkes Martial Arts against Roberto Olivia for the World Lightweight Championship. Dechsakda is one of the greats of Muay Thai, with over 250 bouts under his belt and the Lumpinee Stadium championship. The Thai great faces the Italian newcomer to Lion Fight in Roberto Olivia. “The Butcher” has made a name fighting around Europe, Asia, and here in the US. Currently the ISKA Muay Thai Intercontinental Champion, Roberto will look to add another belt to his collection.

Whether you are a Muay Thai fanatic or just looking to dip your toes into the proverbial water, be sure to tune in to Lion Fight 70 on Fight Pass on October 8th. You won’t regret it!
