MartiansVs (MvR) have agreed a deal with Mayfield FC to provide home and away playing kits and training kits to their Under-11, Under-13 and U15 teams for the 2022/23 season.

In addition to kits, 10 MvR NFTs will be set aside and reserved for Mayfield FC. When the floor price reaches 1 Eth, one NFT from the Mayfield FC Pot will be sold with all proceeds going to the club, then again at 2 Eth, and so on until the final NFT is sold at 10 Eth.

Mayfield FC are based in Daveyton, just outside Benoni in the Gauteng Province of South Africa — historically an under-developed and under-privileged area. Mayfield FC were established in 2021 during the Covid lockdown in an attempt to keep young people active and engaged and away from potentially dangerous areas and illegal dumps.

The club started with 8 children, and has grown each year and now has highly talented U-11, U-13 and U15 teams. They are looking to expand with the introduction of an U17 as well as a girls team. They are registered with the local Football Association and playing in local leagues.

The playing kit also displays the MvR motto of ‘Be More Underdog’, inspired by the history of when coal mining families in southern West Virginia joined the United Mine Workers of America and rose up against a cruel system created and controlled by the mine owners.

The miners stood up and fought coal operators for their constitutional rights, fair labour conditions, and the ability to form a union in this crucial and largely ignored chapter in American history. The estimated 10,000 justice-seeking miners who took up weapons and marched to combat in 1921 at the height of the mine wars were dubbed “the Red Neck Army” because they wore red bandanas around their necks.

The concept of Be More Underdog is to help provide opportunities to people to thrive and achieve their goals in the face of adversity. The work that Mayfield FC do with these youngsters is exactly in line with this mantra; not only providing a safe environment for the teams to practice and play in, but fostering a community of talented young boys and girls that otherwise would not have the opportunity to be a part of an organised club.

Andrew Pringle, Founder at MvR said:

‘We can’t wait to follow Mayfield’s journey and we look forward to their weekly match reports that we will share with our community’

In true underdog spirit the club is going from strength to strength, despite their limited resources. We are extremely proud to be able to sponsor them to help play a small part in their development.

The training kit was supplied by Capelli Sports.
