Why Martians Vs Rednecks?
Whether they’re cute little green helmet-clad animations courtesy of Warner Bros (that’s you, Marvin), or bursting out of John Hurt’s stomach in outer space, there’s no getting away from the real alien invasion that’s been taking over our planet since its 1950s heyday. Building an army of fans to rival that of the Martians in Mars Attacks, the Sci-Fi genre has boldly gone from strength to strength as we’ve lovingly welcomed it onto our television screens, and into cinemas and comic books for the past seven decades. It has brought countless people together from the outer corners of the Earth, forming a loyal and dedicated community of admirers who share our passions on everything from Star Trek to Coneheads on the myriad of platforms and forums existing specifically to support our love of all things science fiction.
But why do we love it so much? An easy question to answer for anyone who’s been swept up and away on the flying saucer of fun that is this much-loved and respected genre. For starters, there’s the sheer escapism it gives us with its diverse mix of weird and wonderful characters from Mulder and Scully to Ellen Ripley (and they’re just the Earthlings!). Factor in the likes of Yoda and Leela from Futurama and you’ll have no trouble seeing the extent of its popularity. Take into consideration the spoofs such as Galaxy Quest and the endless quotes and references in every other genre out there in the Universe and you’ll realize why this welcome invasion of extra-terrestrial critters is so globally adored.
What are we doing?
With an official militia having previously only made a complete hash of defending our glorious planet, who better to provide the much-needed protection we require than the proud community of American Rednecks? With their fearless approach to fighting and dedicated patriotism, we are recruiting a total of 3,333 Rednecks of all shapes and sizes to fight the impending 3,333-strong army of Martians that are currently cruising their way down to Earth for a Hillbilly bruising. We don’t have the need for all that technology that they have at NASA an’ all, but by improvising with a well-aimed pitchfork to the antenna, we’ll send those critters packing for good.
All aboard Nerdship Enterprise
Calling all fans of everything outer (and inner) space. Whether you’ve been loyally dedicated to the genre for all the glorious decades of its existence, or a fresh new recruit having just jumped on board, we want you! If lightsaber battles are your thing or maybe you’re more inclined to be found Star Trekking across the Universe with Captain Kirk, or you’d rather enjoy the lighter options of Red Dwarf or Space Balls, climb aboard the Nerdship Enterprise as we boldly go where, okay, some have been before, but let’s join them anyway.
