Don’t overwhelm yourself
As you embark on your brilliance journey I want to share a few words of caution to help you keep a balanced mindset. It can be overwhelming when you start to discover the true depth of what you can achieve. You may feel like it’s too much work, requires too much time and is really only reserved for others who are passionate, confident, talented and gritty.
But the biggest thing that can overwhelm you is the fear of failure. The fear of putting all this effort in not really knowing how it will pay off, doing things that may be embarrassing, not being good enough and wasting a lot of time, energy and respect of your loved ones.
Should these concern you, do not worry. I simply cannot stress that enough. Do. Not. Worry.
Your brilliance journey is not something you will suddenly switch on and you need to be running at full speed. We shall warm up, take it one step at a time and slowly, but surely, pick up pace.
To start, I want you to appreciate the enjoyment for what you are about to be doing. You will be becoming more self aware, gaining courage and challenging yourself in new ways. This alone can, and should be, extremely rewarding. We call this the intrinsic motivation. Measure your successes against your action, not the outcome. Are you experimenting, are you failing, are you learning? Treat each micro-step as a wonderful opportunity to achieve, and love every minute of it.
Once you start to build momentum you will have too much to do at any given time. This too can be overwhelming. So patience is key here along with appreciation to enjoy the small stuff so you get them done, one at a time.
Over the next few chapters we’ll dig deeper into the things that will be holding you back.
