The University of Colorado and University of Oregon will once again co-host the 2023 Chevron Silverado Showdown.

The major college women’s golf tournament, which has a field of 17 teams, starts Monday, April 3, and continues with second-round action on Tuesday, April 4, and concludes with the final round on Wednesday, April 5 at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa.

Play will be on the North Course, which will be set up as a par-72, 6,146-yard layout.

San Jose State returns as the defending team champion. The Spartans won by a two-shot margin in the team scoring, shooting 287–290–293–870, last year.

The field for the Chevron Silverado Showdown, a 54-hole, three-day tournament, also has UC Berkeley, the University of San Francisco, USC, UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oregon State, Pepperdine, Texas A&M, Texas State, Washington and Washington State.

First-round play on Monday is from the Nos. 1 and 10 tees, from 8 a.m. to 10:06 a.m.

The last group of the day starts from the №10 tee at 10:15 a.m.

There are 93 players in the field.

The San Jose State Spartans are shown after winning last year’s Silverado Showdown.

This is the ninth year of the event, which was founded in 2014 by Colorado head coach, Anne Kelly, and former Oregon coach Ria Scott, now the coach at University of Virginia.

The tournament was also founded by Napa residents Dr. Rob Talley and his wife, Kim Talley. Their daughter, Emily Talley, was a four-year collegiate player at Colorado. The National Golf Coaches Association and Golfweek named Emily Talley as an Honorable Mention All-American in 2012.

After playing golf in college, Emily Talley turned professional in 2012 and went on to play on the Symetra Tour.

“The Silverado Showdown holds a special place in my heart because of the connection with former Buff, Emily Talley and her parents, Kim and Rob Talley,” Kelly said, in a report, at cubuffs.com. “Emily grew up in Napa and Dr. and Mrs. Talley were the catalysts that made the event happen.”

A practice round for the Silverado Showdown was scheduled for Sunday on the North Course.

Chevron announced that the individual winner of the Silverado Showdown will receive an invitation to participate as an amateur at the Chevron Championship, the first major of the LPGA season. The announcement was made by www.thechevronchampionship.com and the University of Colorado Athletics, at cubuffs.com.

“I am so excited that the winner of the Silverado Showdown will earn a spot in the Chevron Championship,” Kelly said in a report, at cubuffs.com. “Chevron has taken a big lead in supporting women’s golf at all levels and to give a female collegiate player the opportunity to play in an LPGA major is fantastic. I am very thankful to Chevron and their support of our event.”

The Club at Carlton Woods, at The Woodlands, Texas will host the Chevron Championship, April 20–23.

“We have had a great partnership with University of Oregon, Silverado Resort and the Talley’s, with the addition of Chevron and the LPGA exemption, the future of this event is very bright,” Kelly said in a report, at cubuffs.com.

In a report, at www.lpga.com, it was announced:

“Chevron has worked with the LPGA to revise the eligibility criteria for the (Chevron) Championship. With these changes, Chevron aims to help create greater access to the professional game by providing an opportunity for amateurs from diverse backgrounds to gain valuable experience competing with the world’s best players. They include playing opportunities for the winners of the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, Women’s British Amateur Championship, Women’s Amateur Asia-Pacific Championship, Women’s Latin America Amateur Championship, Augusta National Women’s Amateur and Chevron Silverado Showdown.”

The trophy for the Silverado Showdown is shown at last year’s awards ceremony.

The winners of those events each receive a spot in the field for the Chevron Championship.

Alessandra Fanali of Arizona State was the low individual medalist at the 2022 Silverado Showdown. She shot 7-under par 209, with rounds of 69, 71 and 69.

Chevron is the title sponsor for the Silverado Showdown.
Silverado is also the home of the PGA Tour’s Fortinet Championship.
