Aaron Shortridge gets the start in a no-decision for Double-A Altoona

Aaron Shortridge of Napa got the start and pitched four innings in a no-decision for Double-A Altoona on Thursday, July 14 as the Curve won its Northeast League game, 8–3, over the Richmond Flying Squirrels at Peoples Natural Gas Field in Altoona, PA.

Shortridge, a right-hander out of UC Berkeley, allowed five hits and two runs (both earned), walked two and struck out four.

He faced 19 batters and threw 71 pitches (45 strikes). He got four groundouts and four flyouts.

Altoona is the Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Richmond is the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.

Shortridge is a Vintage High School graduate and a Round 4 pick of the Pirates in the 2018 draft out of Cal.

St. Helena’s Rico Abreu had a big week, placing in several World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series feature races.

Abreu finished 14th and earned $1,100 in a 40-lap feature at the Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic on Tuesday, July 12 at Attica Raceway Park, in Attica, OH. It’s a 1/3-mile track.

He was sixth in a 25-lap feature on Wednesday, July 13 during the Jokers Wild at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, OH. He earned $2,300. Eldora Speedway is a half-mile high-banked track.

Abreu, driving the №24 car, earned $15,000 after placing third in the Historical Big 1, a 40-lap feature, on Thursday, July 14 at Eldora Speedway.

“We’re building some confidence,” Abreu said in a story at worldofoutlaws.com. “My changes have been making some big changes every time we hit the track, and they do a phenomenal job.”

He earned $5,825 after finishing 12th in the Kings Royal, a 40-lap feature, on Saturday, July 16 at Eldora Speedway.

Abreu was second in the Knight Before the Kings Royal, a 25-lap feature, on Saturday, July 16, at Eldora Speedway.

Abreu is 16th in World of Outlaws Series points. He has six top-5 finishes and 15 top-10 finishes in 29 starts this year.

Amadou Sow, a 6-foot-9, 235-pound center, has played in three games for the New Orleans Pelicans during the 2022 NBA 2K23 Summer League in Las Vegas.

Sow, who played for Prolific Prep of Napa Christian before going on to UC Santa Barbara, played in games against the Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma City Thunder.

Sow, the only player in UC Santa Barbara program history to be named All-Big West Conference all four years, was 0-of-2 shooting and had two rebounds and one assist against the Wizards at Thomas & Mack Center.

Sow scored three points and had three rebounds and two assists in the game against the Lakers at Thomas & Mack Center.

He scored 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting and had five rebounds, two blocks and one assist in the game against Oklahoma City at Cox Pavilion. He was 3-of-4 at the free-throw line.

Sow, who is from Bamako, Mali, was selected first-team All-Big West for UC Santa Barbara after averaging 15.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per game as a senior.
