The 2021 Silverado Amateur, a 54-hole Troon Saguaro Amateur Series event, is Monday, July 19 and Tuesday, July 20 on the North Course at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa.

There are 60 players in the field. The first two rounds will be played on Monday with players starting from the Nos. 1 and 10 tees, at 8 a.m.

Final-round play on Tuesday will begin at 7 a.m. from the first tee, with the last group starting at 9:50 a.m.

“It’s a great field and a really competitive field,” Roy Edwards, the chairman of the Troon Saguaro Amateur Series, said on Sunday. “Players from virtually every west coast college are going to be represented. It’s going to be a good event. We’ve got great weather for (Monday), so we’re looking forward to a wonderful 54 holes.”

According to the Troon Saguaro Amateur Series website, saguaroamateur.com:

“The Silverado Amateur will be a world-amateur ranked event as is the standard in all of our Troon Saguaro Amateur Series events.”

There is no cut. “This is an open amateur tournament and the player must have a handicap index of 3.0 or better,” the website said.

The Troon Saguaro Amateur Series is a world-ranked amateur tournament series that offers 11 events during the 2021–22 season.

“There are about 30 guys that have played really well in a lot of our tournaments. It’s just a nice, deep field,” said Edwards, who is the head men’s golf coach at the University of Colorado.

There was a practice round for the players on Sunday, July 18.

“The players love this tournament and the other tournaments we’ve had here,” said Edwards. “It’s an amazing test. Anytime you have an opportunity to come to a golf course with the incredible, competitive pedigree that Silverado has and the history, it’s really amazing.

“They’re very excited to be at Silverado. It’s one of those rare places in the world. It’s got such a special feel to it when you’re here. The players and the people that are here with them feel it. We’re just really fortunate to be here and share it with the top amateur golfers in the United States.”

Silverado is the home of the Fortinet Championship, a FedExCup event that kicks off the PGA Tour’s 2021–22 regular season schedule, Sept. 13–19. Fortinet is the title sponsor of the Napa tournament.

“We will set it up fairly similar to what the pros will see at the Fortinet in September,” Edwards said on Sunday. “They’re going to get a taste of what it’s like playing on the PGA Tour.”

This is the fifth event of the Troon Saguaro Amateur Series.

The Troon Saguaro Amateur Series will return to Silverado later this year for the Grapevine Amateur, Dec. 28–30.

In June, Josh McCollum of Upland, CA led wire-to-wire to win the Silver State Amateur at Paiute Golf Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In May, Nate Vontz of Lincoln, Nebraska won the Palo Verde Amateur at the Devil’s Claw Course at Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Arizona.

Joe Jensen is the Director of Golf at the University of Wyoming and is the vice chairman of the Troon Saguaro Amateur Series.
