The Avengers is the first film made in the Avenger franchise and was directed by Joss Whedon. It is in the top 10 highest grossing movies worldwide, more specifically the 8th highest movie, with $1,518,812,988 worldwide.

This is the first time that Marvel shows the 6 heroes come together to protect the earth but the attack happens to take place in New York. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is the agent that gets the Avengers together and he tends to observe them and how they behave with one another. In addition, it does take the heroes a few trials and errors to finally start working as a team or to get that last push to work together without their own problems stopping them.

Throughout this film Steve Rogers or Captain American (Chris Evans) and Tony Stark or Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), seem to have the most trouble and disagreements with each other and Tony often tries to rile up Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) so he can see when he’s angry, to see the Hulk. The first time in the film where Hulk is seen is when the carrier gets attacked, causing Hulk to come out and Natasha Romanova or Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) is the first to encounter him and tries to keep him calm, which does not go the way she wanted it to.

The attack seems to be caused by the God of Mischief, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) adoptive brother, he starts by using the Tesseract to corrupt the minds of different agents, like Clint Barton or in the comics Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and starts with small attacks within New York.

But, the person behind the final attack is Thanos (Josh Brolin), who was born on Titan and gave Loki the army that attacks New York. However, Thanos does not appear in the Avenger films besides from post-credit scenes, until the 3rd film, Avengers: Infinity War where he is the main antagonist.
