Welcome back! It’s time for another trip in The Marvelous Mesozoic Time Machine. Today we travel to Asia in the late Cretaceous period approx. 71–84 million years ago.

We step into the warm humid climate, caused by many active volcanos. We have arrived in a semi desert climate in a section of redbeds. Many different colored cemented sands cover the ground.

Plants we know today like roses, redwoods and willows can be spotted in the terrain. The world is populated by flowering plant’s. Many types of birds and Pterosaurs soar through the sky. It’s truly beautiful here, but still very dangerous.

As we start walking through the terrain you trip over a small nest. Inside are several eggs. When you crouch down to inspect them you see that they are elongated and hard shelled.

A weird squeal loudly sounds and you don’t have time to react as a dog sized lizard slams into your leg. You’ve gotten to close to a Bagaceratops Rozhdestvenskyi* nest, and mom isn’t happy.

*The name Bagaceratops means small horned face

You push the Bagaceratops away and she immediately goes to stand by her nest. She’s about the size of a dog, measuring around 1.6 feet tall and 3.5 feet long. She weighs a max of 20lbs. She can run at around 7MPH.

We look around to see more Bagaceratops near by grazing on ferns. We’ve stumbled into a nesting area. They have ten grinding teeth in each jaw. They are adorable with their horn lined snout and small beaks. Try not to piss any more of them off, those beaks are sharp.

Luckily for you, Bagaceratops Rozhdestvenskyi belongs to the Bagaceratopidae family. These adorable little lizards are herbivores and live off of low growing plants and shrubs. We are reasonably safe for now.

With that, two oviraptors come darting into view. They go straight for the eggs tearing into them and sucking up the gooey insides.

The Bagaceratops screech and attack the Oviraptors, not being able to do much damage. They eventually leave with their fill. Sorry man, life is tough out here in the Cretaceous. I’ll schedule your therapy appointment for Friday.

Step back into the Marvelous Mesozoic Time Machine and we can head safely home only lightly traumatized. Thank you for joining me!

Disclaimer:

The known facts on dinosaurs update all the time. We learn new things, old ideas get challenged, scientists will continue to debate and update our knowledge based on evidence. I try to keep up and keep my information as accurate as possible and I apologize if anything in here isn’t 100% accurate. The fact is, it’s hard to know anything for sure with a species that’s been dead for millions of. years.
