When you commit a crime, you do the time. Everyone knows this as a staple from winding up behind bars. However, not as many people would think to apply this to our non-human neighbors as well. You see, even misbehaving “good boys” have to learn their lessons too.

Case in point

Meet Pep the Dog

The beginning of Pep’s life of crime starts in the 1920s in Pennsylvania. At the time, Pennsylvania Governor Gifford Pinchot wanted to help make changes to the state of the U.S. prison system. He held the belief that inmates could be reformed, and that solitary confinement was not an answer.

So how did his plan play out?

Enter Pep, the Pinchots’ pet black labrador had a habit of chewing cushions, among other naughty behavior. However, one day, Pep did something so bad, that the Governor had no choice but to send him away. His crime?: Killing the cat of the Governor’s wife.

Subsequently, to teach Pep a lesson and set an example, the pooch was sentenced to life in prison and sent to serve out his sentence at the Eastern State Penitentiary. After he received his very own…
