“Jump! You got this. Jump into the bubbles.”

I was standing on the edge of the cliff staring into the river swirling rapidly beneath me.

“It’s only fifteen, maybe twenty feet down, Mary. Bend your knees. You can do this.” The number of feet didn’t matter to me — because it seemed like a hundred. I was terrified.

I held my breath and jumped.

The moment my head is immersed, I open my eyes — the water is crystal clear. My face pops up above the surface, and I’m radiant — fully present in the moment. Sun shining — I’m in the depths of the glorious creek within the secluded forest.

I did it—and I can’t believe it. I jumped off a cliff for the first time ever in my 53-year-old life and survived.
