Be kind. Yes I know. It sounds too simple to work.

But kindness is at the heart of all human relationships.

And it’s often underrated.

When we’re kind to someone, not only does the other person feel good, but WE feel good too.

Sounds like a win / win to me.

Random acts of kindness to strangers are great.

Paying it forward by buying a cup of coffee for the person behind you in the queue at the coffee shop, is an excellent example. It creates good feelings in the person receiving your kindness.

And just as important, you feel good too.

Research into kindness has shown that the person doing the kind deed receives even more positive feelings than the recipient.

But what about your family and friends?

At Christmas we’re often in the company of at least one family member, or friend of the family, whom we wouldn’t dream of spending time with if we had the choice.

But maybe they wouldn’t choose to spend time with us either.

What if you decided, for the sake of everyone involved, to be as kind as possible, just for the few days you’re all together?

Do you think that would ease the tension and reduce everyone’s stress?

I have no doubt it wouldn’t be easy. I also know that it would definitely ease YOUR stress.

And probably that of others too.

And remember, it’s only for a few days at most.

So do whatever you can to reduce your stress and enjoy.

And if you really don’t want the usual family Christmas this year,

Then be kind to YOU and find your own way to celebrate.
