have you ever thought
you loved somebody
too much
but as time passes
you’re no longer so sure?
everyone feels like that,
right?
the commonalities of life
and chores
reduce the intensity of
your feelings
and all the time you spent
indoors
they outdoors
becomes a common blur
like one of those rorschach tests
where you’re supposed to
say what you see
in those ugly blotches of paint
and what do you see?
if you do
the waves? the horses?
the impetuosity of desire?
grandmother’s brooch?
or love’s extinguished fire?
