Are safe spaces really safe?

A safe space in the true sense of the word is segregation. Safe spaces are supposed to be a place where people can go to shield their sensitive minds from the oppressive words of others or so we think.

The left are constantly saying that they embrace diversity, but they cry out with a type of fervor that one would normally see from a preacher asking for donations when you give an opinion that differs from theirs. If they do not want diversity in thought then what kind of diversity do they want? Can we have diversity in a safe space? Are we really going to fall for this sham?

I call it a sham because people are so weak they cannot attempt to argue the point that they want to get across to other people. Instead of arguing and defending our own stances we are hiding behind closed doors and crying to people of power. How are we as a society going to advance if we cannot at least try to change another person’s mind? I know this post is riddled with questions, but to me that’s what a safe space is — One big question. Society itself cannot progress without the free transfer of ideas and technology. If what someone is saying is wrong or immoral it is the duty of the people listening to discuss and inform others that it is so. When we silence what other people say because it is offensive, because it hurts or any other reason we are no better then the totalitarian regimes of the early 1900s and even before then.

If we allow our elected representatives to legislate thought and speech like the British tried to do in the late 1700s to the 13 colonies, then surely expressing your opinions about those elected representatives or their policies could offend them. What if one day we allowed this to escalate so much that we had secret agents of “thought police” everywhere we went questioning our beliefs and if those beliefs did not fall into what was “socially acceptable” we would be thrown into prison? What if one day expressing your opinion was illegal? Hopefully one day it will not happen, but surely it can and will.

The United States is the last beacon of freedom in the world. If we caudal our young and forget the values of our founding fathers, then we are vulnerable to people and groups who want to change America for the worst. It is better to be offended and free then enslaved and pacified.
