Donald Trump deserves fair criticism.
Donald J. Trump has been President of The United States no more then 9 days as of writing this article and he already is wildly unpopular. Why is he unpopular? He is keeping up on his campaign promises and the left hates that. While I did not vote for Trump, I can stand behind him when he does something good and I can criticize him when he does something I do not like. Many of his supporters like him for his brute honesty, while his adversaries dislike him for his authoritarian stances on issues like the economy and immigration.
Whether or not you agree with the man, he deserves fair and honest criticism. The President is not a king and he cannot imprison you for making fun of him or telling him he is wrong. Nonetheless, those who blindly hate on the man for wanting to enforce laws created 16 years ago or wanting to preserve our current way of life are not doing anything but creating mass hysteria and hurting progress. The same can be said for those who unconditionally agree with everything the President says because he has an (R) after his name. Hating on him unconditionally and liking everything he does without thinking about it are of no help to the Country, or the President. We live in a free and open society where the political discourse among citizens is what makes progress happen.
The First Amendment of The Constitution is sometimes said to be the right to disagree. If we do not utilize it correctly and blindly fall in one category without looking at the facts then disagreeing or agreeing looses it’s meaning. Our experiment with democracy, as former President Ronald Reagan describes, is dependent on the fair and honest criticism of Government and Government officials. This does not only apply to the President but, members of Congress and other big-Whig Government officials.
