Last July 2019, the World Blockchain STO Summit was held at the Caudan Art Centre, Port-Louis Mauritius. The summit explored how STOs are a better choice for businesses looking to raise capital than through IPOs because STO offers unique advantages such as low entry barriers, fractional ownership, and access to global investors. Its special focus was given to understanding what “STOs” (security token offerings) and other classes of emerging technology and alternative investment instruments are and how they can be leveraged to generate value and profit.

Aaron Tsai (蔡逸群), Founder and Chief Capitalist of MASEx (名交所) and MAS Capital (名资) was one of the experts speaking in this summit, sharing the stage with other STO and FinTech experts such as Faraz Rojid, Head Financial Services at Economic Development Board Mauritius; Jean Lehmann, Founder and CEO at Cyber Capital HQ; and many more.

Aaron Tsai stated in his keynote speech, “Cross-border mobility, ease of investor access, fractional ownership and integration of the unbanked, all provide enhanced liquidity in the secondary market.” To integrate the sizeable unbanked population worldwide, including Africa, MASEx plans to use AI facial recognition and blockchain identity technology to enable them to participate in the world financial market, such as buying US$10 worth of security token of a REIT in Dubai.

Aaron Tsai met several blockchain professionals from the region, including Emmanuel Tokunbo from Ghana, a Technology entrepreneur and an advocate for the adoption and use of Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT). He is currently Business Development Manager — Africa, for VITE Labs, and VP- Marketing at ICOWatchlist.com.

Aaron Tsai was also featured in La Sentinelle, a Mauritian newspaper article. This article reported that Tsai as an American expert on STO explained how this new form of capital raising benefits enterprises in the region, during his First Keynote speech at the World Blockchain STO Summit.

The Republic of Mauritius is an island paradise and an important financial center in Africa. The advancement in blockchain and blockchain fintech is highly noticeable with governmental support for the initiative. MASEx has communicated with the Economic Development Board of Mauritius regarding the possibility of applying for an STO Exchange license last year.
