As a Mass Digital content strategist, you’ll work with state agencies to produce content that makes it easy for constituents to access government services. This position isn’t just copywriting. You’ll work on cross-functional teams of experts in graphic design, product strategy, technical architecture, and software engineering. Besides creating and maintaining clear, accessible content, you’ll also help our partners improve (or develop) their user-centered content practices and promote those best practices across government.

  • Produce and edit content for products, services, and various projects
  • Design content to meet the needs of its audience
  • Write and edit complex language so it’s easy to understand
  • Present the right information in the right format for various audiences
  • Identify and compare the best ways to evaluate, produce, and deliver content
  • Help teams develop editorial processes
  • Develop ways to measure the effectiveness of digital, print, and other content
  • Understand government accessibility requirements and design content that works with common assistive technologies
  • Maintain consistency with Mass.gov’s style and content
  • Promote the practice of content design in workshops, office hours, and content-related events, and find ways to raise awareness of the content team’s work among external audiences
  • Collaborate closely with developers and designers to create, test, and deploy effective content marketing experiences using modern software development methods
  • Offer educated recommendations on how to deliver a consistent, sustainable, and standards-driven content strategy across products and services
  • Incorporate peer feedback in individual and group critique sessions
  • Uphold our team values of being clear, concise, inclusive, curious, and honest — both in writing and daily collaboration

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Professional experience or academic background as writer, editor, content designer, or content manager
  • Experience researching or using research to identify user needs and proposing a path towards better meeting those needs
  • Experience working on content in a multi-channel digital environment
  • Ability to use digital analytics data to make informed decisions and prioritize work
  • A desire to support all constituents of the Commonwealth to have healthy lives and families

Bonus if you have experience with:

  • Drupal (or an analogous Content Management System)
  • ServiceNow (or an analogous Customer Relationship Management system)
  • Mailchimp
  • Google Analytics
