Masters’ Union Review

Being both novel and unconventional, at Masters’ Union, we sure do get a lot of questions about the ‘ideal’ version of a student.

Do they have good grades? Do they have lots of experience? Are they part-time particle physicists?

Well maybe the last question is a bit of a stretch, but here are our thoughts as to what makes an ‘ideal’ applicant.

I know some of you might be wanting content around GMAT/GRE cutoff scores, work experience statistics, and the lot.

However, at Masters’ Union, we really do follow a holistic evaluation process. From looking at elements in your application like your essay, CV, references, academic performance, work experience, etc. we also cross-reference our evaluation with your performance in our entrance exam (or the GMAT/GRE/CAT) and in the interview as well. Your application should be a sum that is greater than its parts when divided.

In our search to define what an ideal applicant means to us, it’s important to recognize quality, acknowledge anecdotes and consider the context. Statistics, exam scores, work experience, etc. without any life experience attached to it might not rub off as the most useful — for anyone.

The results of our search have led us to some pretty astute conclusions.

You are an ideal Masters’ Union candidate, if you -

Have made the best use of the opportunities available to you

With a melting pot of individuals from different contexts and backgrounds, we all had different opportunities & resources growing up. What matters is whether you made the most of what was provided to you. Having attended a top University is not enough — what matters is how you leveraged that opportunity. Concurrently, having attended an unbranded institute is not a disadvantage if you were engaged, participative and left an positive impact there.

You are open to opposing viewpoints & new ideas

If you’re up for a good & healthy debate and are ready to engage with others’ point of views, we feel that you’ll be able to make the most of your Masters’ Union experience.

You are humble and open to being coached

If you know what you don’t know and are ready to learn and fill the gaps, you’ll be able to engage in a deeper level of peer-learning and soak in more knowledge from the masters.

You are curious to learn new things

If unanswered questions keep you up at night and if you feel the need to google any new or old questions, thoughts and ideas, we feel that your curiosity will hold you in good stead in a typical Masters’ Union classroom.

You are motivated to create impact

Masters’ Union will throw a lot of challenges at you which will need you to driven, motivated and highly collaborative with your peers.

You exhibit strong leadership performance and potential

Leadership is manifested through different forms — entrepreneurial ventures, captaining sports teams, volunteer projects, etc.

Masters’ Union is looking for students who are driven to tackle challenging problems and leave the world a better place.

In contrast to the potent sugar, spice, everything nice cocktail that created the PowerPuff girls, the ingredients of the ‘ideal’ Masters’ Union application recipe serves a dish that transcends geographies, gender and gastronomical preferences.

We’re just waiting for our stars.
