Read from quadrant one to quadrant four counterclockwise (start from the top right and go counterclockwise to the right bottom).

Quadrant 1

Welcome to your dream,

success moves you forward,

happiness lifts you in the air,

makes you feel untouchable,

spiraling up the upward slope of life,

you can call having both common,

a trait you see in a ‘normal’ person,

However, one doesn’t stay here for too long,

ahh what a utopia this is,

Quadrant 2

now we have come to the dream

for the brave,

the ones who know in their hearts,

that happiness is gold and shinier,

than any form of success,

smiles over money,

too bad the rest are too frightened,

to come live here,

it’s worth it for the brave.

Quadrant 3

finally welcome to the nightmare!

very interesting for me to watch,

nothing to keep you afloat,

you sink down into the deep waters of shame,

it hurts i know,

you feel like nothing can heal your pain,

it’s okay, keep moving

the shore is coming,

keep swimming.

Quadrant 4

i truly can’t believe you’ve made it so far!

you’re almost back on the top,

where you originally started,

opportunities start to roll in,

money starts to shine again,

all that swimming has paid off,

you have success, It’s sweet, oh i know,

but don’t let your greed keep you down here!

you’re almost out of the waters,

i believe in you! Your utopia is waiting.

Math connect

On a graph, when a circle is divided by two perpendicular lines, it is divided into four sections or quadrants. Quadrant one is in the top right, where both values of x and y are positive. Quadrant two is in the top left, where the x value is negative and y value is positive. The quadrants are read counterclockwise, starting from Quadrant 1. It is often used for trigonometry as well, where rotations are measured in radians using pi. In this poem, I connected the quadrants to our values of happiness and success. The x value represents our success, as it is what pushes us forward. The y value is our happiness, since it “elevates” us. At different times in our lives, one of those values can outshine the other. The counterclockwise continuous nature of the quadrants indicate how it is a journey to find the balance between both.
