# Subtracting Mixed Numbers.

This week’s math hack is a trick to make things simpler when you’re subtracting mixed numbers. First, I always treat the whole part and the fraction part of mixed numbers separately. Second, when we borrow, instead of adding the whole to the top number we can do the subtraction first. That’s sounding complicated already so let’s look at an example. Let’s subtract 2 3/4 from 5 1/8.
