Much of the New York City of lore — that described in movies and books, and that which draws tourists and business to the city, is long gone. Mayors Rudolph Giuliani and Michael Bloomberg drained much of the culture in pursuit of commerce, but vestiges of the city I grew up in are still here. It’s a lovely surprise.
