Finding Strength
Wise Words From My Grandmother
Last week, my Grandmother completed surgery on her eyes to treat cataracts. As a lifelong learner, she’s looking forward to being able to read her favorite books again, use the internet and connect with the world.
A few months back, I visited her with a book of poetry to read to while she recovered. The result, one of the best connections we’ve ever shared. Since then, this ritual of reading together and discussing afterward has become one of the highlights of my week.
Yesterday, she suggested that maybe I could call her “once and a while” and read to her over the phone.
Internally, I thought: I’m too busy! There’s no way I can find MORE time to do that AND visit every week AND juggle all the other needs in my life, work etc.
Externally, I said: YES
After our call (10 minutes ago), I asked:
What resonated with you most from the reading?
In a clear unwavering tone, she said:
“You’re not strong until you wish it for someone else.”
A simple gift, from the heart, that I’m happy to share with you.
