This story is part of Matter Supply Co’s ongoing Inspirational Site Series. Once a week, we get together to share those experiences, old and new, that pique our interest, inspire us, and make us think.

Feel free to join in and share with us some sites you love with us in the responses.

We are always on the lookout for great books to read. A friend of ours over at Nike shared this one with us. Aside from the deep content, we also love the way that it filters and sorts with each click. Drill down across multiple categories to find your next perfect book.

Sea Hero Quest

The folks behind Sea Hero Quest are fighting Dementia with fun. They’ve created a better way to collect information and perform testing through play. Their game has already racked up 80 years of gameplay from all types of people around the world. The information they have collected is equal to over 12,000 years of in the lab research. Take a break, have some fun, and contribute to finding a cure for a terrible disease.

Kayak Explore

We love to travel. We also love sites that anticipate Jobs-to-be-done (JTBD). Here we get two of our favorite things. Looking to spend some time in the sun in Feb but have a tight budget? Kayak Explore can help you to plan that get away without breaking the bank.

Hipmunk

Here’s another of our go-to travel sites that also happens to be focused on JTBD. When you know the where and when Hipmunk is a great resource to find your flight. We love that they sort first by agony because sometimes cheaper isn’t actually worth it. Especially on those long hauls down to our visit our South American office.

Nomad List

Are you a digital nomad in search of your next place to post up? This is the best site we’ve found to help you make your choice based on what’s most important to you. On the fly filtering and continually crowdsourced information means the info is fresh and legit. The community aspect that backs Nomad List means that when you get there, you can plug right into an active community. I wish this site was around when I did my RTW.

Nomad List Hoods

Nomad List is making two appearances this round for their work on Hoods. Whether you’re on Round-The-World trip or new to town, you can use Nomad List Hoods to get to know the city you’re in. Find new places to explore and let people know what parts of town are filled with suits and which are up and coming.

AR Sandbox from UC Davis

This is an old one but one of our favorites. Using Augmented Reality, play, and imagination, researchers at UC Davis made the sandbox of every kid’s dreams. By building hills and valleys updates the topographical map. The best part is this site features all of the resources and plans to build your own.

Monolitt

Another one of our favorites from the past, this AR art piece shares the mood of the city as expressed through tweets. Oslo School of Architecture and Design students Syver Lauritzsen and Eirik Haugen Murvold created this living art piece. We love the use of sentiment detection that triggers a burst of corresponding color to come forth.

Fatal Force

The Washington Post provides this grim and interactive reminder of the violence Americans experience at the hands of law enforcement. Users can explore the circumstances, the names, and the locations of these killings. This important reporting is presented in a way that demonstrates the gravity of the subject and provides important context to a national epidemic.

Ken Perenyi, Master Art Forger

This brilliant talk at the 2013 EG Conference explores ideas of creativity, ownership, and the question of ethics in the art world. Ken shares the story of how he became one of the most prolific Art Forgers at one of our favorite conferences.

That wraps up our December 2017 Edition of Well, That’s Cool…
We can’t wait to share more things we love in the new year. Let us know your favorite experiences in the responses below.
