Truth by Any Other Name
I don’t know all the answers
I don’t always exactly know what is true
but I do know Truth is under attack
by cynical forces so bent on power they are willing
to replace our shared understanding of reality
with a vacuum-creating chaos in which they step
to replace the collective good with their ambitions.
I want to be apolitical and just love my love,
raise my kids, and enjoy the beauty of the world
but I can’t see how to do that when it feels
we are at an inflection point where this moment
will define the rest of our lives in unsettling ways.
If I don’t step up, who will? If we don’t strive for truth
as we best understand it and insist on good faith
in our negotiation of finding common ground,
what kind of world will our kids inherit?
