Early Autumn Poems.
By Graham Hartley
(Happy Fall Everyone!)
Burning Bark.
O’ herald the new flame
burning up leaves of fame
autumn breeze dance in fires delight
cherish, before winter’s blight.
Arm reach down to earth.
pick up the light
to burn
to crisp.
to starve for warmth.
Steccado
Summer breeze to autumn chill, the crisp air stabs between the fingers that interlace mine.
They call us forbidden. A love not unlike the coming of winter, as life freezes over around us.
I don’t mind.
Let them speak.
I’ll stay here.
Cryofreeze sleep.
My heart in sharp beat.
A staccato dance in my feet.
Amber Flames
Fall flames rise
in the heat of the autumn cold.
The love in my soul burns
like the amber flames bold
The crisp air crackles
against mobile furnace
ring of rocks
fingers entwined, locked
we disappear into the night’s gloom,
for only one friend watches.
the fake dawn’s glow.
Freewrite
I am sitting in the dark
as I write this poem.
the quiet silence I lark
of life and light I write.
I want to illuminate my soul
my purpose bright.
Camouflage
“friends” in the woods.
just on a walk.
to say “just a talk”
community balk.
Among the fauna and ferns,
we wait in early frost,
to just be ourselves,
to make up for time lost.
You and I alone
in the company of twisted trees
ignorance of bees and bees.
soft freeze on creek.
a kiss on the cheek.
Autumn Aroma (A List)
crunched leaf under foot
Harmony between apple and pumpkin
oaken firewood pyres
early dew frost
barbeque highs
perfume on turtle neck
loose whisky hung low.
‘o, I love you so…
