Four Fun Things to Do While Quarantined
by Emil Tinkler
With the recent outbreak of COVID-19 you may have found school, work, or even both have moved to an online setting to prevent further spread of the virus. This will result in a lot of time at home and even once you’ve completed your work, you still need to mostly stay indoors to prevent any community spread. If you are anything like me, you are going to end up very bored while cooped up in your house or apartment for days on end so here’s a few fun things to keep yourself entertained while in quarantine.
Be Creative!
Creativity is a great outlet for boredom especially when going outdoors and being around groups of people isn’t really recommended. You can try out painting even if you just have the crappy Crayola watercolor set or try to write a fictional short story for fun. If that’s not your speed you could also attempt something like sewing, knitting, or crochet. If you are staying with your parents over quarantine your mom or dad may have some of these supplies laying around for this for you to use! Even if what you make isn’t “good” creativity is about having fun and making something. It doesn’t matter what you do or what materials you use as long as you have fun!
Start Binge Watching a TV show!
What is one great way to burn hours and hours and hours of free time? Watching TV of course! Now is a better time than ever to sit down a binge an old favorite (I am definitely going to watch Parks and Rec) or to watch something new. Netflix and Hulu have loads of original content and other shows you just maybe didn’t catch on the air. If you are looking for specifically LGBTQ+ related media, you can check out my partner Andrews post “LGBTQ Friendly Shows to Binge on Netflix.”
Read a Book!
While I’m sure not everyone is an avid reader, I know I can’t be the online with a few books in their collection that have still gone unread for one reason or another. As daunting as it can be to start a new book sometimes there is no time like the present and right now many of us have a lot of extra time. So, if you find yourself bored with nothing to do maybe try to sit down and read a book for once instead.
Play a Game!
Whether you play on your phone, laptop, or a console playing some good old video games are a great way to pass all the extra free time. You can even play online with friends and call or facetime while you play. You can also play card games or board games with anyone who might be quarantined with you which is just as fun.
These are just a few ways to get started with all the potential fun you can still have inside the possibilities are endless. You could even build a massive blanket fort through your whole apartment if you have the dedication. No matter where you live during this time remember to stay safe and wash your hands regularly especially if you adventure outside!
