OMG it’s…

This is something that actually happened last week in Brazil. The mayor of Rio sent officials to take all the New Avengers comics that were being sold in the main book fair of the city with the excuse that it was inappropriate for kids and had pornographic content. It was only a kiss with a gay couple. So I wanted to show this double standard and society’s hypocrisy, comparing to one of the most iconic X-men covers of all time, from the 90s, with a heterosexual kiss.

We’ve been reading comics with heterosexual couples kissing and it was never a problem for kids. But when it comes to same sex demonstration of affection, in Brazil or here in the US (both the New Avengers and the XMen are US productions), suddenly it’s a problem. It’s not about the kids, it’s about homophobia.
