I feel it is very common for people to criticize “body modification” mostly when it’s trans people doing it, because it’s “unnatural.” As a personal thought, I do feel that heteronormativity/gender performance is so strong in our society that even trans people feel the pressure to fit into those gender stereotypes, but if you’re gonna criticize it, criticize the system (heteronormativity and gender roles that everyone suffers from), not only trans people.
