If ever there was a great show that was overlooked in the history of television, it has to be the AMC+ series Interview With The Vampire. This Emmy-worthy show has been neglected by the masses, and it is a shame because it is currently the best thing on TV. However, by the end of this article, we hope to rectify this and pique your interest in watching the show.

Interview With The Interview is a gothic horror vampire series based on Anne Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles. The show is currently in its second season and keeps getting better with each episode. Season 1 followed the tumultuous love story of Lestat de Lioncourt and Louis de Pointe du Lac, along with their “adopted daughter,” Claudia. For an unclear reason, Louis invites an old acquaintance who also happens to be a journalist to his home and gives him an interview like no other. Imagine being an ailing journalist trying to find something worthwhile to cement your shattering legacy and getting the rare chance to interview a vampire! Daniel Molloy couldn’t resist the offer and so the interview began. If this synopsis has not convinced you, then here are two more reasons why you should tune in for the show.

The Story

Anne Rice is known as one of the best gothic fiction writers of our times. It is no wonder that a show based on her book is a great success. The show deals with many themes, from queer love, toxic relationships, moral dilemma, life and its vanities and everything in between. The story captivates us as we follow these vampires trying to find some semblance of happiness and avoid the lonely life that comes with immortality. The fact that the story is told from Louis’s perspective adds depth to the show. Although we’re not certain if he’s a reliable narrator, he definitely has a compelling storytelling quality. The show also cleverly transitions between the present and the past, allowing us to relive moments with these characters.

The Cast

For starters, the gorgeous and talented Jacob Anderson plays Louis de Pointe du Lac. He never wanted to be a vampire, but Lestat lured him and turned him into one. However, make no mistake, Louis is no saint, and he can be manipulative and shockingly diabolical.

The Australian actor Sam Reid wows us with his entrancing portrayal of Lestat, a character we can’t help but have a love-and-hate relationship with. However, every time he calls Louis his mon chéri, we get selective amnesia and forget he is a big walking red flag. We also have the prolific actor and playwright Eric Bogosian, who plays Daniel Molloy. Molloy adds more sass with his cynicism; one can’t help but wonder if he has a death wish. Nonetheless, he has given us some epic lines that live rent-free in our minds.

For season 2, Delainey Hayles brings Claudia to life. All her vampire life, Claudia has wanted to find pride in who she is. She is also tired of playing second fiddle to the men in Louis’s life. Lastly, we have Assad Zaman, who perfectly portrays Armand, the second man in Louis’s life. Armand helps Louis pick up the pieces after everything goes down with Lestat, but is he messing with Louis’s mind?

The cast is well-picked, and everyone delivers on their role. From the supporting cast to the lead, there is no disconnect when it comes to how the characters relate to each other. This gives the show believability and helps the viewers immerse themselves in this fantasy world.

I highly recommend watching Interview With The Vampire if you’re into queer shows with drama, great cinematography, and progressive storytelling. You’d be missing out if you didn’t add this show to your watchlist right away!
