2022 is here! It is sure to be full of surprises, good news, and all of us hoping for better days. Though the pandemic continues to make our lives harder, we have wonderful things to look forward to this year. From books, films, to series, here are the LGBTQ+ projects to watch out for.

2021 gave us amazing books but 2022 is set to give us more books that we will fall in love with. I am already excited for all the new LGBTQ+ themed books that we will be getting this year. If you are one for a messy storyline and breaking the rules when it comes to love, then, “I Kissed Shara Wheeler” should be on your shelf in 2022. It is a funny romantic comedy that will keep you entertained. It will be released on 3rd of May and given the author is fan-favorite Casey McQuiston of “Royal, Red, and Blue” fame, I am sure it won’t disappoint.

“Every Word you Never Said” by Jordon Greene is another book I am excited for. A wonderful third novel from Jordon Greene this teenage coming of age story follows Skylar, a nonverbal queer character who loves wearing skirts and has just transferred to a new school where he meets Jacob. Now he’s navigating new friends, a new school and a new crush. The book is already quickly becoming one of the most anticipated books of the year.

“All That’s Left in the World” by Erik J. Brown is another queer book with an amazing story. In an apocalyptic world where everything has been swept away, we find Andrew and Jamie. Andrew stumbles upon Jamie’s house starving, hurt and with nothing to fight for. Will this be a new beginning for them or just an end like the rest of the world? Erik Brown, though a debut writer, has an exquisite lyricism to his work and will keep you enthralled.

For the film and TV lovers, you’ve not been left behind. We had amazing stories throughout last year. With diverse genres and relatable characters in 2021, many announcements were also made on various films to be released in 2022 and directors promised their fans groundbreaking films.

The messy Gossip Girl remake is set to release another season with its queer cast debuting in 2022. Rurangi, which received its Irish premiere at Gaze 2021 with amazing reviews, is set to be fully released on February 25, 2022. Directed by Max Currie, this New Zealand feature is set to be one of the biggest films for trans audiences of the year.

Benedetta, a film directed by Paul Verhoeven, follows the life of a lesbian nun in Renaissance Italy. The film depicts a true story of Benedetta Carlini, which includes an affair with another nun. The theatrical release is on April 22, 2022.

Bros will be a groundbreaking comedy from Universal Pictures set to be in theaters August 12, 2022. The plot has not yet been fully released yet, but we know Billy Eichner and Luke Macfarlane are playing two central characters. Eichner, who has co-written the Bros screen play with Nicholas Stoller, is the first openly gay man to co-write and star in a major studio film. Other out cast members include Bowen Yang, Harvey Fierstein, Dot-Marie Jones, Ts Madison, Miss Lawrence, Guillermo Diaz, Jim Rash, Amanda Bearse and Peter Kim.

We have a lot of queer content coming in 2022. What are you looking forward to most?
