What you’re most proud of: My Lip Service Podcast of Coming Out Stories, 3 Questions, New Mexico’s Premiere Business Podcast and the progress I have made as Executive Director of the New Mexico Out Business Alliance, personally and professionally.
3 words that describe your teenage self: Determined, Self-Focused and a little crazy.
3 words that describe you now: Determined, Humble, Driven.
What you would tell your teenage self: Focus on your education first.
What you wish you knew about coming out that you know now:
Everything, I came out late at 46. I was formerly a straight, white republican female until I was enlightened, and I have never looked back. I only wish I had come out sooner.
Don’t be afraid. The common thread through the stories shared on Lip Service is that everyone was afraid to come out. They were worried about not being accepted. They worried about the response from their friends and family. And maybe the biggest issue was not having a role model that let them know it is ok, they are normal, and they deserve to be their authentic selves.
What you love most about being a part of the LGBTQ+ community: The freedom to be my authentic self.
Person you most admire: Elizabeth Katy Stanton and Susan B. Anthony, Martin Luther King Jr. and John F. Kennedy
If you could change one thing about the world, you would: Find a way to create unity.
What inspires you now: Staying healthy and working hard to help my LGBTQ Community. Lip Service the Podcast of Our Coming Out Stories has been a dream of mine for years. I was originally thinking of a book and then it made more sense to make it a podcast. Podcasting increases the reach and accessibility.
The goal of the podcast is to give the story tellers power by sharing their stories and to let others know they are not alone.
We are normal and we deserve the same respect as everyone else.
