Netflix had fans of Young Royals buzzing with excitement early this year when they dropped the trailer for season 3. Young Royals is a popular Swedish youth romance show that tells the story of Wilhem and Simon. Wilhelm is the Crown Prince of Sweden and falls in love with his classmate at Hillerska Boarding School. As expected, this royal romance has faced some trials and tribulations, but love has always won.

What to Expect from Season 3

We left things in a rather distressing state in season 2. Wilhem had viewers clutching their pearls and simultaneously jumping for joy when he finally publicly acknowledged he was the man in the scandalous sex video with Simon. The Queen nearly had a heart attack, but Wilhelm’s mischievous yet decisive smirk clearly indicated that he would no longer be shackled by tradition.

This season, we hope to see what will happen after he publicly comes out. Will he be allowed to remain at Hillerska Boarding School with Simon? How will the public react to the news? We are hopeful that the times have changed and the public will mostly be supportive of Wilhelm and Simon.

Based on the trailer, we know Wilhelm and Simon will face a few hurdles, such as heavy media scrutiny. Simon had not expected this, and it won’t be easy for him to adapt to it.

On the other hand, we have August, who has always been on the naughty list, but he took it too far this time. We are still not sure if he is beyond redemption, but we are more worried about him replacing Wilhelm as the Crown Prince. At the end of season 2, things were going wrong for him, and it felt so good to watch him lose. However, the fight is not over, and we can’t rule out the possibility of him doing something messy again.

In the season 2 finale, Sara reported him to the police and in the season 3 trailer, we see an investigation going on. Based on the investigation findings, Hillerska Boarding School might close its doors for good. Once again, August’s selfishness will affect everyone.

Lastly, we expect to see how Sara and Simon will rebuild their sibling relationship. Simon was hurt after Sara betrayed him and chose to protect August instead. By the time she came to her senses, it was too late. Even when she tried to rectify the situation by reporting August, it made everything worse. With trust gone between the two siblings, what will it be like at home once they close for the holidays? Aside from Simon, Sara also has to make amends with Felice and her other friends.

Ultimately, Season 3 will focus on Wilhelm as he struggles with his duty to the country and Simon. He will need to find a way to handle both things simultaneously. Wilhelm has been clear that he has always wanted a normal life away from the glaring eyes of the public. However, if he chooses to abdicate, then August takes over. Given August’s selfish history, he won’t make a good king. Even as Wilhelm struggles to make a decision, Simon remains steadfast by his side.

We already know this will be the final season, and we are mentally preparing to see how the WilMon love story will end. In a recent video released as part of Season 3 promotion, the cast discussed the possibility of the end being open-ended. Edvin, who plays Wilhelm, said, “ The story will continue in the audiences’ minds.” Omar joked about having a Young Royals movie in two or five years and seeing where Wilhelm and Simon will be in their lives. We have to side with Omar on this; we can never have enough of the Young Royals.

Season 3, episodes 1 to 5, drops on March 11th, 2024, and the finale will drop on March 18th, 2024. Check out the trailer.
