Matt’s Media Minute
It’s been a minute…
I’ve always loved writing. It is a great way to exercise the creative part of my brain after a day of working on engineering, legal, privacy, and product problems. In the past I’ve dabbled in everything from screenwriting to standup to pontificating on the future of AI, but it’s been awhile since I’ve done anything consistently. I’ve also always been drawn to media and have a pretty unique vantage point on it, so thought I’d use this blog to organize and share my thoughts on media, entertainment, and technology.
Before media was my paycheck, it was my passion. Growing up in LA, my parents introduced me to classic films at a young age. I grew up renting Singing in the Rain and North by Northwest from Blockbuster, but equally appreciated the Simpsons’ heydey. After college I was the only 22 year old in LA who was a startup engineer by day trying to sling comedy screenplays by night. Even today I run a movie club appreciating the films ranging from Charlie Chaplin’s 1925 silent film The Gold Rush to Highlander.
For the past 4 years, I’ve been the Product Lead at Google for the Ad Manager Video Platform. At Google I get to work on both powering and defining the future of TV monetization for both Google and large content owners and broadcasters as they adapt to the shift from TV to streaming. Prior to Google I worked on media tech innovation for Verizon including launching the NFL and NBA Innovation Funds and running our media startup accelerator and owning 5G media tech incubation products ranging from live streaming to cloud gaming.
Given my perspective view on this world, I thought I’d start pulling my thoughts together and posting here ranging from thoughts on where the industry is going, thoughts on content, technology, and strategy.
Thanks for watching,
Matt
