Creating high-quality connections

It cannot be overstated how important connections are in building a successful career. The right connection at the right time can help you see a challenge from a fresh perspective, leverage new approaches, or find new tools to be more effective and efficient.

To maximise the time you spend with experts we have outlined some tips.

  1. Be clear in the outcome you are looking for.

There is no need to be coy, opening the session with clear intent defining what you want to achieve, will ensure you get there. If you are not able to define the target, how do you hope to hit it?

2. Practice critical listening.

This is an underappreciated skill, to be able to engage, and evaluate the information and connect it with your problem. In this instance, critical does not mean to pass judgment, but rather trying to analyze the complex information to gain insight and benefit.

3. Embrace being challenged

Being safe in your conversation will lead to muted outcomes. Try to push yourself out of your comfort zone and don’t be afraid to ask ‘silly’ or pointy questions. The Mavins are here to help you elevate your career and deliver value, but the responsibility is on you to push for the real insight you need.
