Mavericks are persistent and fearless in the pursuit of a better world

As 2019 comes to an end, let us reflect on what we did this year for others. Did we do our best to raise awareness about global issues? Did we participate in initiatives that contributed to positive changes in the world? Did we speak about the injustice that happened in front of our eyes, or about the injustice that we read about through our mobile/television screens? If the answer is “yes” to most of these, great. Now, we must make it a goal to exceed what we did in 2019 in the next year. Then, we must make a plan in which we can measure our success. However, if some of us answered “no” to most of these questions, a whole year is ahead to give to the disadvantaged and vulnerable the activism that changes their situation.

In order to achieve such a positive impact, the anger inside of us, caused by a lack of change and hateful rhetoric, must be transformed into a gigantic and energetic passion to fight back. As young people, we might have limited resources, such as money and total freedom to do what we want, but taking small steps is far more beneficial than just day-dreaming of a better world or complaining about issues.

The idea is to think globally and to act locally. The daily lifestyle choices that are presented to us require us to make decisions that, when added up, will have a global impact. Therefore, as mavericks we must always think about the impact of our actions. We should also call things as they are. Injustice as injustice. Corruption as corruption.

In conclusion, let us aim for 2020 to be the year we dedicate more of our time, energy and skills towards making the world a better place and working towards being real-life superheroes.
