Today we celebrate the women and men who know that in order for society to make real progress, men and women must be viewed as equals. Equal responsibilities, equal burden, equal pay, equal respect. All of us at Maveron are feminists and recognize that in order to achieve gender equality, both men and women have important roles to play. Today, we celebrate heroes in our industry and beyond. We celebrate women who have changed the world and men who help them achieve success.
Today, Maveron’s investment team is 50/50 men/women. We made that choice because we know it makes us better. Last year, 70% of the companies we made new investments in had female CEOs. That was a result of the people around our table and their diverse networks, not a quota or mandate.
There is still a long way to go to create equal footing for men and women — especially in our backyard of Silicon Valley — but we show up every day to do our part in creating environments where different voices carry equal weight and diversity is vital to innovation and changing the status quo.
We hope you join us today, International Women’s’ Day, and embrace your role as a feminist by creating an equal platform for men and women whether that’s in the boardroom, the senior executive suite, the product team, the classroom, the lab, or the playground.
