It’s that special time of the year again. Guess what? No need to go into work on Monday. To celebrate the 56th anniversary of our country’s independence, the Federal government has declared Monday October 3rd a public holiday; October 1st falls on a weekend this year.

Few ways we’ll be celebrating the 56th anniversary

  • Starting the weekend off at the internship fair collaboration with Stutern at Unilag. Can’t wait to meet you all.
  • Hitting up the beach. It’s been a busy week. Time to sit, relax and read a book — with a glass of wine on deck.
  • Sleeping in. The stress in Nigeria can be so real sometimes, so this long weekend we plan on getting as much sleep as possible. Some of us will be hiding indoors for a day or two.
  • After the sleeping comes the Independence day Faaji!! Not only will we (Nigerians)l celebrate birthdays or marriages, we’ll also celebrate when you bring home a new car or buy a new house. So what is an independence day without some sort of turnup? Now’s the time to pull out those top outfits you’ve been saving for a special day; some Ankara, lace, agbada. #teamnigeria
  • FYI: If you have no party to attend, stop by Kene Rapu. There’ll be music, drinks, cupcakes for all. Plus, they’ve got an independence day sale bonanza going on. 30% of all purchases and if you drag one of your friends along, you’ll get an extra 20% off. Thank me later!

If you’re thinking, what else is there to do this weekend? Here’s a list:

  • MAMA party October 2nd at Hard Rock Café on Water Corporation Road. Event starts at 9pm and the tickets cost N20,000
  • Fashion lover? Check out Dennis Osadebe X Orange Culture #shopnigerian. Shop limited edition pieces from their Resort Capsule on October 2nd from 2–7pm at Nakenhohs BLVD, Ikoyi, Lagos.
  • Organised chaos with the talented Brymo. Head over to Freedom park, Broad street, Lagos on October 2nd at 5pm. Ticket price — N2 000.
  • Concert Revelation with Timi Dakolo, Favour Flakes, Funny Bone and many more at the Air force mess, Kofo Abayomi, Victoria Island. The special thing about this event is, part of the entry fee is donated to the Arrow of God Orphanage.
  • For the foodies out there. Check out Flavours of Lagos on October 2nd and 3rd at Bar Beach, V.I Lagos. There’s also Lagos Uncorked Food Festival on October 2nd from 11–8pm at 2 Olawale Daodu, Kingsway Road, Ikoyi.
  • Looking for a good laugh? Check out the Stand-up Nigeria comedy show on October 1st. There will be two shows; one at 3pm and 7pm for a regular fee of N5 000 at the Shell Hall Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos.

Happy independence day from the MAX team to you! Wishing you a safe and enjoyable long weekend.
